Initially Ray and now his successor Enrico have been refreshingly honest and effective. You can trust their opinions and recommendations. I have used SKF for many years.
Over three years living in New Haven, I relied on SKF to take care of my 2005 VW Passat. They were consistently honest, thorough, and reliable every time I dealt with them, from routine maintenance to major repairs. While they are not necessarily the cheapest option for all services, they never tried to sell me something I didn't need, and always made all of my options clear. In my opinion an honest, reliable, and professional auto mechanic is worth every penny, and SKF meets that description.

AND THEN my husband took his car there for brakes - and not only were they superb communicators but incredibly honest - his lines were shot through and through and rather than snow us and try to do the work (which would be dangerous) or try to convince us that we should do the lines, they sent pictures and asked what we wanted to do - knowing the cost of repairs was more than the value of the car. NOT ONLY THAT - they let us come get the car and didn't charge a dime for having looked at it. We scrapped the car and were able to purchase a replacement vehicle ONLY because they didn't insist on doing brake work on my husband's old and failing vehicle. We trust them! It takes A LOT to trust a mechanic! Highly recommend SKF!
We first tried SKF for my car last year - I had been reluctant to try a new mechanic as we had used the same one for 15 years but it was too far to keep driving all the way to Bridgeport from Hamden! They completed work in a timely manner and keep me in the loop the whole time. As we are on a very tight budget right now they also enabled me to prioritize what had to happen and what could be put off. We were happy with the service.
Enrico and Chris did a good job. Took my car in the morning, dropped me off at my work a few miles away and picked me up after doing the job same day. Right axle on a 2002 bmw.
This place is tops! They didn't end up working on our vehicle, but they were very honest and upfront about everything. A less honest shop could have easily gouged us, and they did not. Extremely knowledgeable. I would absolutely trust and recommend this shop.
